Xaloy/Compuplast Extrusion Seminar a Big Success

We had two short courses with Xaloy at their facilities in New Castle from April 29 – May 2.   The over 40 participants spent 2 days learning about polymer properties and rheology and how they related to screw design and achieving optimum melt quality.  The participants observed the measurement of shear viscosity on a capillary rheometer and were shows how this information is used in screw design simulations and process optimization.  The Xaloy crew were also kind enough to “fire up” their cast sheet line, complete with a melt pump so that participants could see how some of the topics presented in the short course applied to a real process.  We would like to thank all of the participants for attending and wish them much success in applying their newly acquired knowledge and understanding on their job.

If you missed this event, don’t fret. We plan on having more short courses in co-operation with Xaloy in the future.   Check back on our site periodically for an update on the course offerings.

Plastics Encounters at ANTEC 2008

We would like to thank the many visitors we had to our booth during this show.  We are currently following up on the many leads that were obtained but if you feel that you need some additional information asap, please feel free to contact us.  Here is a photo of our show booth.

March 2008 - VEL™ 6.2
VEL™ 6.2 has many new and improved features that touch upon most of its modules. New and existing customers can look forward to new enhancements such as the animation feature in the 2D FEM Post-Processer with the ability to record video with play back!
The Profile Die module has many improvements and refinements aswell. Now there is a possibility to see a reference contour for comparison during the cross-section editing.
VEL 6.2 has made great improvements from its previous versions and is now VISTA compatible!

February 2008 Compuplast® Injection Molding Plastification (IMP) Module officially released
New software that simulates the plastication phase of injection molding can be used to optimize screw design for a particular material and process condition or to determine the process conditions that yield the best melt quality with a given screw design and material. The new Injection Molding Plastification (IMP) program from Compuplast International Inc., predicts the melting behavior and melt quality in the injection barrel. The simulation predicts output, melt temperature, temperature variation, and melting rate of the material. These data can help determine the optimum screw speed and recovery time for the material, screw design, and shot size. John Perdikoulias, Compuplast v.p., says traditional simulation software focuses on filling, cooling and warping, while making assumptions about the incoming melt temperature. To read more click here
