EXTRUSION SOLUTIONS FROM EXTRUSION EXPERTS

COMPUPLAST® Virtual Extrusion Laboratory - Medical Applications

The COMPUPLAST® Medical Applications Extrusion Package™ can be used to simulate the extrusion of multi-lumen medical tubing of virtually any construction. It can be used to develop optimized tubing dies for maximum production rate, estimate extruder performance and to optimize calibration and cooling systems.

The COMPUPLAST® Medical Applications Extrusion Package™ can help the user visualize the material behavior anywhere inside the process. It also allows for adjustment of the die geometry to get balanced flow inside the die to achieve the desired material distribution at the die exit.

The die flow balancing can be performed either manually or with an optional Automatic Flow Balancing™ feature, which automatically finds the shape of the die channels that optimizes the material distribution throughout the die. The advantage of die designed in COMPUPLAST® approach is not very sensitive to process conditions (changing line speed, using different extruders etc.)

The package can be applied to both mono-layer and coextrusion processes. With Medical Application Package the user can easily avoid the heavily unbalanced flow that occurs during the typical initial die development and thereby achieve the desired final shape much sooner and at maximum production rate.

The COMUPLAST®, Virtual Extrusion Laboratory™ for Medical Extrusions consists of several modules that can be purchased individually, or in combination, to simulate and optimize the various components in a Profile Medical Extrusion Process.

The applicable VEL™ Modules are:

The VEL™ for Medical Extrusions has been developed with the extrusion process engineer in mind. These modules can be used to help:

  • Optimize Die Designs
  • Optimize Flow Channel
  • Optimize Mono or Coex Die Design
  • Optimize Cooling Sections

The versatility and ease of use have truly made the COMPUPLAST™ VEL™ a valuable CAE tool.

The Virtual Extrusion Laboratory™ for Medical Extrusionsis also a very useful and powerful product development and process troubleshooting tool. The modules can be used to help:

  • Optimize Material Selection
  • Optimize CoexStructures
  • Troubleshoot Process Problems
  • Minimize Down Time
  • Maximize Production

The Medical Application Extrusion Package can help the user understand/solve the following problems:

  • incorrect product shape/unbalanced flow
  • poor surface quality
  • coextrusion phenomena
  • problems related to the extruder performance such as surging, material overheating, material degradation and burning

The package can also show how efficiently and evenly (or unevenly) the profile is cooled.
